Legalistic and its USP

Legalistic was founded by Rustam Roy, a qualified solicitor of 16+ years’ experience. Rustam has worked in private practice (City and Oxford/Reading), in-house (television, video games, Telecoms, IT Services and Software Licensing) and as a freelance consultant (Dell, Thames Water and T-Systems). Rustam has worked for traditional law firms as well as “new law” and has often slotted into existing legal teams and worked on designing and managing “managed legal services” offerings.

Legalistic was created out of a desire to provide legal advice in a more business-oriented way…combining the commercial awareness of the best in-house lawyers with the experience gained from varied private practice. Legalistic wants to be regarded as an external legal business partner providing pragmatic and commercially sound advice without waffle and pages of assumptions.

Effective business advice often draws on several skills and disciplines and Legalistic can draw on Rustam’s extensive network for related legal advice (for example, corporate or employment law). Rustam is also part of the Atom Network and can involve technical, finance and project management professionals as needed.

How we work

Engagement

Legalistic will engage with clients in flexible and transparent ways, which could include any combination of:

Time-based (by the hour, day or month)

Fixed Fees (for discrete projects)

Ongoing retainers

All travel (other than local commuting or car mileage costs) and accommodation expenses are charged extra. These will be expressly agreed in advance.

Relationships

Legalistic wants to build long-term relationships and in order to achieve that, understanding your business is key.

We want to know what you want to achieve and what you are concerned about in your business – whether in relation to a single transaction or overall. We believe that will help us provide you realistic and pragmatic advice.

Fees – general principles:

Legalistic will:

Always be transparent in its charging methodology.

Never incur or charge fees or expenses that have not been agreed.

Always inform you prior to commencing any chargeable work.

This is important:

Legalistic provides its services primarily through Rustam Roy, the founder and a qualified solicitor. Rustam’s services are NOT provided as a solicitor providing regulated services, but as a freelance legal consultant. Legalistic Limited is NOT regulated by the Solicitors Regulatory Authority.

Why is that (you could justifiably ask)?

The reason is simple. The Solicitors Regulatory Authority (SRA) does not yet have a category for solicitors that provide freelance, unregulated advice (no litigation or property work), which is considered higher risk and therefore is subject to much higher insurance premiums. Working as a legal consultant, I can provide you the same services at a much better rate.

Legalistic is fully insured – details available on request.

Why Legalistic?

Why Legalistic?

You SHOULD consider using Legalistic if:

You want direct advice in plain English (it’s a never-ending battle against legalese, but Legalistic is a fan of documents that most people can understand).

You want to complete a commercial transaction without the contract taking centre stage (it should only be a means to an end…not the end itself).

You want to have a sensible conversation about risk mitigation strategies (no risk…no business).

You would rather work with lawyers who enjoy learning about your business (and who won’t charge you for trying to understand your business).

LEGALISTIC MAY NOT BE YOUR IDEAL LEGAL CONSULTANT IF:

You want your legal advisor to tell you how to run your business.

You think it’s fun to negotiate limitations of liability (they are of course important… but nowhere near as important as other sections of the contract).

You think that your legal advisors should wear a tie.
